Original manuscript of chapter 48 of A tramp abroad, Samuel L. Clemens's (Mark Twain's) account of his sojourn of nearly a year and a half in Europe, written in the form of a burlesque walking tour. In this text, the author visits the tourist attractions of Milan. Tipped onto octavo leaves, with numerous revisions, deletions, and marginal notes. Paginated 2052-2090 by Clemens and the chapter number has been changed from "59" to "48" by him. Includes a tipped-in portrait of the author, dated 1898, as a frontispiece.
